Hi Paul and Andie, thanks for doing this chat and thanks, Paul, for the blog, best read of the year, hopefully it will turn up on Richard and Judy's Book Club at some point.

I've been doing sound engineering/producing for a year in my own studio (mostly analogue - yes, just like in the "good old days"!) and Six has become kind of a reference point for my work. If I can make anything that has even half the warm sound and complexities of Six, then it's a job well done. I was wondering if Paul had any particular producers which are an inspiration to him as he is to me, and if he is self-taught as I am doing? Also, if he could produce any artist, alive or dead, who would it be?

Hi Paul. Must say its a wierd feeling to actually be asking you a question after all these years of being a fan of your's and Mansun! Mansun were the 1st band I really fell in love with and like they say you never really forget your first love. OK here's my question:

How hard was it chose what tracks made it onto the album and what was left as B-sides? I ask this as there are some cracking b-sides (my fave is Promises from the Fool EP) and in my opinion are better than most bands "a-sides". Did the label have any influence as to what made it onto the album or was it solely down to personal favourites of yours making it?

Cheers.

Really enjoyed both legs of the Six Blog, even wetting myself laughing at one point on the part about Shotgun..... Which brings me to my 2 questions that Ive been dying to ask since the 1st of September...........

1) The Large Hadron Collider - Doomsday Device or the Catalyst for improved sciences we thought unimaginable?

2) With the bottomless pit of cash that Manchester City now have, is the premiership doomed to becoming uncompetitive and ruined?

Okay, a Mansun one then....

3) Whatever happened to the other Howard Devoto track, Never Again?

Rog

Hi Everyone! I couldnt make it today as Im in rehab for Soother abuse. Only joking!!!!
Hi Rog,
In answer to your questions.
1. The Large Hadron Collider will hopefully confirm the existance of Shatners Basoon.
2. Manchester City will probably be able to afford Mikel Arteta now.
3.Howard sent us a few sets of lyrics and a few demos. I listened through and the 2 we tackled were the 2 that seemed the best suited to us recording. The other demos and lyrics we returned to Howard.

Hi Andie and Paul!

I'm a relatively new fan, only started listening about 2 years ago, I was introduced by my then boyfriend (now fiance :D ), and you guys are easily one of the greatest bands I've ever heard.

Some of questions for both of you:

1) What's your favorite Mansun song and album?
2) Do you remember how you all met and decided to form the band?
3) Do you like any current bands, like Porcupine Tree and Radiohead, or do you prefer older stuff like Prince?
4) This will probably be asked a lot, but: when's the new album coming? And are you two working together on it?

Thanks for taking you time to answer our questions, and best of luck in the future!

Love forever, Jessica

Ps: loved the blog

I really believed in my heart that legacy would hit the number one spot after the top ten success of "closed for business" alot of my mates thought that the track sounded just like "wide open space" for me it was a bit similar but not enough to cause a debate. When you released "legacy" did you and the band feel pretty good about the song getting to number one.

Hi Paul & Andie!!
First question I have is in regards to the alternate US release of Six... in the anniv. blog you stated that the single version of Six was "re-recorded"... was in redone entirely? Vocals and all? For those that might not be aware, this single version was substituted for the longer original version.

I'm curious as to how much input you had in the US Version, the running order, etc. It's a very different animal than the "original" UK album, though it strangely has it's own cohesive power as a set of individual tracks, even with the changed in running order. I'm curious what you thought about the US label's seeming insistence on "dumbing-down" your records for U.S. consumption...

TIA,
<3 D.

Okay, here's one that has always baffled me - what ex-rock stars do on a normal day. No doubt, the uber-rich can sit around in mansions and snorting coke off midgets all day long but what about guys like yourselves?

So...now that the dust has settled on yor Mansun career (...or has it? Nudge, nudge), the touring is over and you have the rest of your lives to get on with, can you describe a typical day in the life of Andie/Paul these days?

Thanks in advance gents. :D

Im not sure what the best gig was. Possibly some of the festivals. I remember the main stage at Reading being a great gig because we got bottled by the metal fans, but after a few songs we got a mosh going and won the day. So that was very pleasing to win them over. That sticks in the memory.

joe

Hi joe. Firstly, I used the second bass drum to hold up my other toms. Secondly, I was getting a bit tired of seeing drummers with kits that all looked the same. I didn't use the bass drums as 'metal' much, although at the end of take it easy and taxloss I'd give um a bit of socks to give that rumble througth the pa. It also helps when you have a drum-tech to set it all up and take it all down again. That's why people have a small kit I guess....

At least I never got a rack..!.. I did have an ashtray though. A. x
